So often in this industry, supermodels become victim of a fashion genre. The journey that starts with a flexible portfolio somehow plants itself in a comfort zone. They shamelessly start specialising in a genre of photo shoots and can never budge out of it. It’s all by chance, never forced, but it happens.
Coco Rocha was starting to settle down in the aforementioned category, until the September issue of Dazed and Confused Korea hit the stands to prove us wrong.
The editorial revolves around an amalgamated mood of tribal, grunge and edgy, where Coco finally gets to show the dark end of modelling, or acting if that suits. In the blur motion of every shot, photographer Gregory Harris encapsulates the eeriness of the editorial. Taped fingernails, pale make-up and rusted furniture in the back room, all tilt towards the ghost-like aesthetic. Her disturbed gaze sets a soulless tone for her monochromatically-styled clothes.
